A New Hampshire customer, recently relocated from Idaho, asked BarMade to repurpose a barnboard beam into a tabletop. The beam, taken from a barn on their property was used as fireplace mantle in her Idaho home, installed by her husband, who passed away just prior to her move to New Hampshire. She brought the beam with her, and wanted it made into a tabletop, preserving the beam's weathered look. She provided a vintage Singer sewing machine stand for the top to sit on.
The hardware was removed, and the beam was crosscut in half. The two haves were planed down 1 1/4-inch, and the edges shaped for a seamless pairing. To accent the beam, a contrasting shade of barnboard was used to frame the tabletop, and a coat of polyurethane to preserve the patina. The top was then fastened to the sewing machine stand.
